So my cowl was leaking because it rusted out. Sadly no one makes a replacement for the 71-73 so i got a kit for a 65-66 and modified it to work and used a bunch of silicon to try and seal it. It slowed down the leak tremendously but there is still a small drip. Does anyone have any suggestions that i can try? I want to put my new carpet in but i can't if its still leaking! Thanks

That silicon will dry out and eventually you will have a large leak. You need to get a mig welder and some new sheet metal and manufacture a new cowl using the existing 65 cowl that you have. Or, you can buy used cowls from places like this. Here is one for a 71.

I tried your link but it didn't work. As for the cowl i bought its plastic (so it won't rust again im assuming) so i used some sheet metal and that to try and seal it with some silicon adhesive that was designed to seal it so that's what i used. As for for fabricating my own i might just have to go that route if i can't figure something else out.

You said you put in a plastic one? Do you mean the plastic hats? I just not clicked on that link I gave you, and it works for me. Which browser are you using? Try it again.

Jeff: I put the engine in the car last weekend but i had to pull it back out last night to replace the fork (they sold me a 10" instead of an 11") and fix the Z bar. So the engine should be going back in the car tonight or tomorrow morning and then i should be able to run and drive the damn thing after 2 months.

Glen: It is a "cowl vent repair kit." I tried the link now and it works ill take a look at it, thanks.

Can you get a picture of the rust dangae to the cowl? There is a 73 at the pull a part here, but I don't know if the cowl is in good condition or not (it could be worse if memory serves me right as I pulled the wiper transmission and the cowl covers. On the 71-73 the entire cowl is beneath the hood. but if you seal the vents off, i suspect your vents in the car aren't going to work too well!

I can see if they would cut the cowl out for you to use as a patch panel, but they don't allow power tools on the yard.
