classsic mustang vin locations

Ok, stang lovers, I have a chance to purchase a 65 2+2, The car was wrecked sometime in the past, and the driver side inner fender was replaced. The vin on the title  is not  the vin on the inner fender now, and the door data tag is gone. Hey, the car is a driver at best, and has a checkered past.. MY question is this,,, What other locations did Ford stamp the vin? I really want to be sure the title vin and the car vin are the same.

Welcome here Bob. The last location you may have a VIN plate is under the hood but if your inner fender was replaced, chances are good your hood was too

Yep, the only place you have left to look for it is under the passenger side fender.  Thanks for coming here Stephen.  You are a source of a great wealth of knowledge regarding the classic mustangs.

This is as good a place to start for my first post.
There were three places where a permanent VIN was stamped on an early Mustang; the exposed one on the left front fender apron in the knotch between the second and third fender bolt; a second one hidden on the same side under the edge of the fender roughly between the fourth and fifth bolt; a third one, also hidden, on the right hand side, in about the same place as the one on the left side. The door data plate was not a permanent identification marker and are subject to door replacement or car painters ignorance. Reproductions are available from http://www.martiauto.com for about $30. If the title has a number 9 in the fourth position, as in 5R09x123456, you may have a correct title for the car. Otherwise, who knows.

Depending on which state you live in, in most states you only need the registration papers to register it and get tags for it.  The 5th digit of the warranty number (VIN) is really the most important one.  If it is a T, then the car should be a 6 banger, but if it is a C, then it is a 2 barrel carbed 289 V8, or if it is an "A" then it is a four barrel 289 V8.  There's no way you will be lucky enough to have a K code engine. 
Well, at least by checking out those things you will have a better idea of what the VIN should be, but then all parts of your car could have been changed out over the years and you really don't know what you have.  Take the fender off of the passenger side to get that VIN.
