C4 Transmission
« on: August 16, 2009, 08:19:45 PM »
I have leak coming from around the base where the dip stick tube enters the transmission. Is there an O ring that can be replaced? If so, how hard is it to remove the tube and do it? Is there a web site that can give me help?

Thanks in advance.

Jeff

Yes, there is an 0 ring that you can replace to stop the leak.

Glen,

Where is the O ring at and how hard is it to replace? Also is the tube easily removed and replaced? Have you done it before??

Thanks,

Jeff

Im not sure if its the same on a c4 but i think the tube un-screws and then you can put the new one in and screw it back in but idk never had a c4 before.

Iit's pretty easy to change the filler tube O ring.  There is one bolt that holds the tube to the rear of the motor that you have to take out and you just pull the tube up and it comes out of the tranny.
I don't know the O ring size off hand (close to an 1" though) but you can order it from one of the Mustang parts suppliers.
It fits where the tube goes into  the filler hole in the transmission.

Thank you I will get a fill tube O ring ordered. It seems as though my tranny is leaking from the area of the shift linkage, is there a seal kit for that area as well and can it be corrected with the transmission in the car?
