Hey everyone!

I've got a 65 Mustang coupe that I am restoring and Im working on the engine right now and Im trying to figure out the best way to clean to intake manifold and some of the other engine components. I don't want to take it to a machine shop for cleaning until I've tried other less expensive things on my own.

Any suggestions?

What engine? A shop is your best bet. There's hot tanking (soaking in a tank for several hours) and hot washing (a big dish washer for an hour). For a quickie, put the manifold in the sun for a couple of hours to heat it up, use Eazy-Off oven cleaner and hose off the crud. You may need more than one aplication. A V8 manifold has cross over passages that get plugged with carbon and may need to be drilled out plus deposits build up in the water passages and need to be wire brushed and/or cut out.

Any acid cleaner such as Easy Off oven cleaner will work with enough applications and patience. Or. go get a bottle of Muriatic acid and cut the crud off, but use some protective equipment on your hands and eyes when applying it.
And,make sure the intake manifold is off the car and out in the open.

Thanks! I'll give those a try. Its fairly bad on all the ports so I may just have to take it to a shop to have them put it in a bath. But we'll see how the acid goes.
