Keisler sells the kit. I changed my mach i over to a tko 600 and yes thedifference is night and day. Cruising on the freeway is a whole different experience. Its kind of expensive I spared little expense on mine but I think you could do a t5 for 3 grand or so. I spent close to 4 on mine. Pay attention to what you order and its really better if you get the driveline local. Make sure you get a complete clutch kit not just the disc..

We got the engine and trasnmission out of a wrecked 1988 5.0 GT Mustang.  We bought the crossmember for the trans at  Moderndriveline.com,  , The Transmission that I have is a  "World Class T-5"  I believe the difference from a regular  T-5 and a "World Class T-5" is  ...the "World Class T-5's" is stronger than the regular T-5.  I remember reading the World class T5 was designed to live behind the mustang GT 5.0 fuel injected engine. Ford was having a lot of warranty problems with the original T5, world class T5 was designed to solve these problems, and is probably designed a little heavier than what was needed for the mustang. As I said in my last post it's a nice conversion, no cutting to the body just bolts right in. One last thing My engine is a 302 same block as the 289. So it will work for your 289. OH and I believe we bought the Cable for the clutch at Moderdriveline as well. We were going to go with a hydraulic clutch system but money was tight so we went with a stright cable system to the cluth, works nice, not hard to push at all.

John,
Are you going to clean and paint the engine compartment once you pull the engine out? That would be the ideal time. Also check out the shock towers. As for switching the trans. I did the opposite. I took out the 4-speed and installed a C4 because of the age thing plus now my wife can drive it if we're out somewhere and I aren't able to drive. . .  8)

I sure am. That is when ever I do get the engine out. Like you said " it would be the best time".
