69 Mustang Mach 1 390 headers
« on: May 25, 2009, 08:50:53 PM »
Im sure this topic has been touched many times.I have a S coded 390 Mach 1.I just got done rebuilding the motor & Trans(c6)
Should be back from paint this week. When i took the motor out it had some old hooker long tube headers installed. They had to use a drop down bracket for the steering ram so the headers would clear.
what a bear to get to those headers.I finally cut em off. :'(

Does someone out there know of a header that works good with the 390 & c6 trans? I just dont really know what to try.Money is now getting tight so id like to see if someone has one of these & which headers they went with.I dont like that drop down bracket but maybe thats what has to be used with any of the headers for this application.

Please can anyone guide me in the right direction?

It's a shame you had to cut the headers off to get them out. THey are a pain, but perform well on the 390's.
There are a few companies that make headers for your car, but they are pricey. Hooker, JBA and FPA are 3 I know of.
Do you still have the cut up ones?
The exhaust manifolds are easier and cheaper to find, but make sure you get the correct ones.

Good luck in your search.
