69 Mach One wiring, and overheating problems
« on: August 06, 2010, 07:52:50 AM »
I just bought this 69 Mach one. Paid just under 7K for it which seemed to be a good price. I have learned since buying it that it is a 69 sportsroof cloned as a mach One. Outside was a good job, but still needs some work inside. It is having electrical issues, though. Looks like the previous owner tried to fix the problem since it has a new dimmer switch and a new headlight switch already. When I turn the lights on I get low beams, but when I hit the dimmer switch, they all go out. On top of that, no turn signals. I also have charging issues....I installed a new alternator, but it still is not charging either! Somebody put a big stereo system in this car at one point, but all that was left when I got the car was some of that mile thick wiring which I removed! Oh well, any suggestions would be great! This car will be a fantastic daily drfver when I work out all the bugs! I am new on here and this is my first listing, so Hello to all! You can email me at emailz7@juno.com

Welcome. The car looks good and you seem to have the attitude to make it work. I recomend that you get a set of 1969 Mustang Assemby Manuals that are available at most Mustang parts suppliers. Try National Parts Depot http://www.npdlink.com/ or Mustangs Unlimited http://www.mustangsunlimited.com/ for parts availability and pricing.
For your wiring problems, you need a wiring diagram (included in the 69 Assembly Manual).
Overheating, for starts: check the timing; when the car is cold, open the radiator cap and see if you have oil/bubbles in the water and consider getting a three core radiator.

I hate fighting wiring problems, so if it were mine, I would replace the under the hood wiring harness.  Otherwise, get out your trusty Multi-Meter and go to testing with the wiring diagram in front of you.

Thanks for the help! I will be able to get back to work on this Stang shortly. I have to get some of my Mopars liksted in order to come up with some more working cash to get this one on the road! I have 2 good 73 Chargers to sell and 5 3rd gen parts cars to sell...I think I may even go back to FEEBay  for a while to move things along!
