67 Mustang heater
« on: November 30, 2008, 02:44:14 PM »
Hello, I had purchased a 67 Mustang on ebay, when I got it  had the heater hoses cut at the firewall, I want to add some braided hoses but I'm not sure if the heater box was leaking, it looks to be in decent shape there are no stains on the carpet where it's been wet before. Also on the eldebrock manifold theres a heat sensor where the hose connector goes can I put the sensor on the other port of the maifold? Thanks in advance Jeff in Indy

With the heater hoses cut at the firewall you will have to remove the heater core to attach new hoses  ???.  I would replace the heater core regardless if I had to take it out.  While I was at it I would rebuild the heater box.  That way you know what you have   ;D

If the heat sensor on the manifold you are referring to is the sending unit for the temp gauge, you can move it to the other port and use that one to hook up the heater.

If it was my car, I would go ahead and hook up the hoses and see if the heater works without leaking.  If it does leak, then you have  to pull the old heater box and put in a new one.  It is a PITA, but I am 65 years old and replaced mine, so it certainly is not impossible.
Regarding the heat sending unit, you can put it on the thermostat housing like most are.  If your thermostat housing does not have a plug on it that you can unscrew and put the sending unit there, go to the parts place and ask for a 1965 289 Thermostat housing.  Double check it to make sure it does have that plug on the top of it.
