66 mustang 289 intake manifold leaks
« on: February 22, 2010, 10:05:24 PM »
the car would not idle properly, found an air leak at the intake manifold behind the distributor. engine perked up when carb cleaner sprayed in this area. new gasket set didn't seem quite right. cork peices for front and rear seam a bit too long. used rtv with gasket but it didn't seal well at all. both front corners leak coolant so does right rear area. still has a bit of air leak behind distributor. which way are the gaskets on the sides supposed to go there is a flat side and a side with raised center portion. i believe the flat side goes to the head. is it necessary to put anything on the side gaskets or not. i never have before but i have never had one leak when i was done either.
