66 exhaust upgrade
« on: January 25, 2010, 12:38:54 PM »
I know this toppic has been discussed time and time again. But let me see if i can get you guy's most recent opinion. I have a 66 copue with a healthy stock 289 4bbl with 5 year old stock exhaust sys. I am looking for a little bit more thump than my current porr. Not looking for something to announce to the world that I've arrived, but something to give the car a little more presence. Not looking to replace stock manifolds. Thank you

Here are some sound clips that may help you decide.  I have the Ravins on my 65 and love the sound.

Hey soring, Thanks. So o can do further research, where can I find this raven exhaust system and what am I looking for? I would like something that will require minimum replacement of parts other than the exhaust syst. Itself, be be able to take to a localuffler shop and replace

I got my Ravins put on at a  Midas muffler shop.  I understand that they may have quit carrying the Ravins, but give your local Midas muffler shop a call and see what's going on with the Ravins.
If Midas has indeed quit carrying them, you can get them at this website.  I have the Z-33's.  They don't have that loud crackling sound the flowmaster 40's have and they bolt right up to the existing exhaust manifold.  I went with duals with an "H" pipe.  I love the sound of mine, and I think you will too if you don't want the neighbors to wake up in the middle of the night when you come home from boot scootin' ;D

I have to check what exactly is on mine, but I love the sound of most of those clips.

ok, checked with midas and they no longer sale ravins. I have goggled ravins, and alot of references refered back to trucks and dakotas and so. Also flowmaster series 50's??? ive read they are quiter than 40's?. I have a relativlly new exhaust system, so is this something that could require just replacing the muffler it self???

Then I was right.  Midas doesn't longer carry the Ravins.  But, you can order them online and have a muffler shop install them.  Yeah, the mufflers are all you need  to change out.  But why?
