Hi blair/Paul,  Welcome!

This is a very common problem and it is often perpetuated by the catalogs being wrong at the parts supply houses.  I guess that the new starter looked just like the starter that has been grinding for a while?   That starter that has been grinding for a while....was it the original?

Well if you read the writeup in the attached line, you will become the next Ford starter expert.

Good luck and I hope it leads you down the correct road on your starter problems.

John

Thanks John. You gave us a lot of info here. I'll get into it in a few days and let you know what we find.  Blair
