well how much money do you have is the first question. Alum heads for sure. do you have the correct motor mounts for your beast? if not they run about300 bucks. Im working on a 429 for my 73 amd im guessing it will cost me around 4000 total for the biuld . It would cost alot more but my brother is doing all the machine work and assymbly. that alone will save me 2k easy.

someone told me that a set of 460 police intersepter heads would be the way to go on the motor.

oh what size motor did the car have before.  If it wasn't a big block you will need new springs in the front.  and they ran us 75 for the set at Auto Zone.

One thing to keep in mind is how will your rear end hold up to that monster??? Im guessing you have a 9'' so thats a good starting point. Build the hell out of it put some nasty gears in it if just a weekend ground pounder and if its a daily drive(if so i love you)then youd probly want somethin that can do a little freeway from time to time lin 3.55 or somethin! cant wait to see it when ur done.   keep us up to date on the build and on what you deside to do with that beat of a motor.

P.S. you can never have enough torque i.e. Stroke the thing to hell and back!

Boss heads will not work, thats a whole different animal. They had to contract modify the front end of the Boss mustangs to get the motor in to sell them to the public. Plus they only sold a very limited amout of the Boss headed motors, a needle in the haystack. aluminum heads are not nessacary in you have a decent set to start with, but are great if you have the money. What is the part casting # for the heads you have??????? I run interceptor heads on my 460 with neck snapping results. What is your end goal for this motor, street, strip, both???????

Here is a link to give you an idea of what you can work with.

FlyingDutch, I hope you realize that thread is about 3 years old, and that poster hasn't posted since then.  Look at the top of the posts before replying, otherwise you will be talking to yourself.  :)

Oh Ya you can get them, your right. 8000.00 for a complete set with all the nessacary parts to get them running. Though The biggest part is, the engine compartment in every mustang they ran them in had to be modified to sell the cars to the general public. That way they could be a factory race car. The motor would not fit without these mods to the engine bay, and they were contracted out to a shop to fit the motors in. Now add another 1000.00 for the exhaust to match up. Anything can be done for the money.

Exactly. Power costs money.  The more power you want, the more money you pay.
