429 heads
« on: January 07, 2009, 06:13:40 PM »
Hi I asked a question on here before and got great answers and ideas so i thought i would try again.

I have a 1970 429 with the dove heads. I do not have adjustable rocker arms but i do have studs, screwed into the head that you torque the rockers on.
The question I have is can i change the studs out and install the adjustable studs.   I would like to install a larger cam and was told without adjustable rocker arms I cannot run larger than a .500 lift.
Any info would be appreciated  thank  Andy

My suggestion is that you do some research such as reading "How to rebuild your Ford V8 351C-351N-400-429-460" written by Tom Moore.  http://books.google.com/books?id=MDw7l7wHs4oC&pg=PA33&lpg=PA33&dq=429+adjustable+rocker+arms&source=bl&ots=hUmHRiQdH2&sig=ze-lVUdBi34qA5GyfKnKmDq-XUQ&hl=en&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=1&ct=result

thanks  I actually just got done getting info out of that book. i do have it and was reading it after i posted the question.  i found out the adjustable rocker arm studs are for solid lifter engines and non adjustable are for hyd. lifters.        so now i was wondering if anyone knows the max lift i can have in a cam for the stock heads with stock valve train?
      thanks

That is an extremely technical question, and one that I don't think you will get an answer on here.  You might want to consult with a Ford tech in your local area to get that answer.

Hi, First you will have to mill off the pedstal. Then drill and tap holes for studs. Any good machine shop can do it.
