I have a question on the 1969 mustang and its motor.

did they all come out with Winsdors or did they have clevelands as well ?  

How do you find out the motor you have ?

I know the M code is a 351 4v but can it be either or is it a winsdor

Please help

the easiest way is look at the valve covers. windsors are flat on top were as clevlands are not. is itr 2 barrels? I have a cleveland 2v i will post pic of the valve cover to so what it should look like. also the intake is wide.

I am not sure but I think the Cleveland was first produced in 1970 but here is an easy way to see the difference:

 Windsor 351 V8 Engine
- Valve cover is held in place by 6 bolts.
- Radiator hose connects to water neck on the front of the intake manifold.

Cleveland 351 V8 engine
- Valve cover is held in place by 8 bolts..
- Radiator hose is a 90 degree hose that connects directly to the top front of the engine block.

If you have a picture Racedraper, it might be very usefull.

I want to thank you all I think I have the 351 cleveland, but I will go to the paint shop Friday and do some counting, and looking.

You are about the best bunch of people I have meet on the internet, since I have asked this same question for about 5 years now and just now got a answer.

I just found an interesting website about the 351 Cleveland. There is good chances your engine is a Windsor or it was replaced later as they started the production of this engine in 1970.

ok guys i went to the body shop today and yes its the winsdor 4v  ( m code ).  But thanks guys for all the help i counted the value cover bolts and it had 6.

somethimes I wish I had a windser, only because you can find alot of bolt ons unlike a cleveland and when you do find something there expensive. As for valve covers there are only two choices out there chrome or stockers.

Oh ya I have seen that already.  My wife has a 1970 fastback with a 429, I cant find anything to dress it up with and in all the books you find the big blocks are just left out.  Some one needs to start a company for the big block fords, that would make a killling.

It might need some cleaning for some but that's an engine that lived and lives, not a queen trailer  :-D
Not that I have anything against them but cars where concieved to be driven and not only to be exposed
