I have a '67 Convertible Mustang with a 302.. Runs really nice, but when it's cold it smokes a bit.. Oil smoke. Accelerating is the worst for the smoke. Once the block is warmed up, it's much better. I've had a mechanic have a look and his best guess is that the valve guides should be replaced.. Is this a good first step to avoiding a possible full rebuild? He wants to charge me about $500 do do the valve guides... Any advice or other possible "first step" fixes? Not sure of the mileage. The car says 84,000, but it also was built with a 289, and right now, the block is a 302 with headers, an Edelbrock Performer Intake and a 4b carb.. so I know this engine has been replaced, but that's all I know...
thanks
