Topic: 3 point seat belt conversion

Hi all, in the intrests of safety i would like to install 3 point seat belts in the wifes 66 vert, is there a thread on a how to, on this site or could someone suggest another thread to checkout??

  I put a three point set in the front of my 66 hardtop over ten years ago, same scenerio - women. It's not difficult but that installation required additional spacers at the floor and a large plate for stress under the car for the retractor. At the upper rear of the door frame is a "roller" for the belt to be drawn over the driver/passenger to the center "hump". That requires a 7/16 inch hole and a couple of pop rivets. At the center, if you have a console, you might need an extender for that short section of belt. Somewhere I've got pictures of the "roller" installation but I got to filter thru several hundred to find them. It cost me about $225 US and the price seems to be the same today. You can find almost everything you need from newer cars except the "roller" section. With a convertible's additional body bracing at the floor, the retractor will be a couple of inches further in than my hardtop but should not overly restrict access to the rear seat.

Thanks for the info Jim , probably a job best left to the experts , any modifications on a lefthand drive car over here must comply with our Dept of Transport rulings and the car is then fitted with a modification plate , if not fitted your insurance company will void any claims in an accident situation !! Still its better than being injured!! We have quite a few specialists near us that deal with American imports so i will go down that route,

The only thing I know, is that on a vert, the top point goes into the "A" pillar just behind the seat.

  You are a victim of too much government, which is what we are fighting against in the USof A.

.Thanks again Jim, l have seen an install quite awhile ago on a vert where the retractor was hidden behind the quater trim panel and the belt exiting through a slot at the top of the panel just above the window crank, should have taken more notice !!!

OK, I went to the FAQ and registered, but there is no place to add a password on the registration form.  Just my username and email.  Therefore I can't get onto the forum.

OK so if youve filled out the registration form, the system will assign a password you can change latter, after you have enterd all details make sure you hit Log in top right of page, good luck the boys are  waiting to welcome you !!

This is exactly the information and pictures we were looking for,
my son and I are restoring a 65 Mustang Coupe, we decided it
would be wise to change the belts out to the 3 point style, but
we did not want to remove the headliner or weld on the roof.

I was sure with some research we would find another method.

I just bought a pair for my 73 Mach 1 on Ebay for about 49.00 a piece.  (The pair worked out to like 112 with shipping)  got em in the mail in about 4 days and they look good.  Time permitting I will try and install this weekend.  My car has shoulder belt attachments at the roof, so my install should be very easy.
