You could get the heads pressure tested and checked to see if they have warped. If all good then the gaskets may not have been seated right. As previously mentioned would be ideal to take engine to be checked at garage. Get the heads checked first though. Good luck.

ok, so I'm back.  It was a very busy summer and I didn't get to work on my car much.  So here's a quick summary of where I'm at since my last post here...

Last summer I drove my 68 Mustang to work. On the way home it overheated. Head gaskets. I tried doing the work myself, failed. Hired someone to rebuild engine for me (had the car for 11 years so figured it was time), we were going to convert it to fuel injection. Took out the 289, bought a 5.0, and the guy rebuilt it (over a few months). The engine is like 80% done, unfortunately the mechanic is the worst mechanic I've ever dealt with only because he never calls back or texts back and has only shown up 4 times over a few months (since I hired him to do the job in early January. I'm done with him. the 5.0 is now attached to my C4 tranny, but has the EFI intake. For the sake of finishing it up, I'm going back with a carburetor. I'm going to use an aluminum intake I got from summit, 4bbl carb, and I understand I need to use the timing cover and accessories from my 289. He had already placed the oil pan from my 289 on the 5.0, but I keep reading about also changing an oil pump pickup? What is the pickup? Or can I use what is already there? Also, can I use the distributor from the 289 on the 5.0 and will it work without changing anything else out? I already have a lot of money into this and I just want my stang back on the road, but healthy. Thank you guys in advance for all of your help...
