1968 Coupe Factory AC
« on: October 25, 2009, 12:04:05 PM »
Hi,

I have just pulled the entire assembly containing the AC evaporator and the heater core. They were both in the same box under the dash on the right side. I have placed labels to all the vac lines and hoses, but when I pulled the unit off the fire wall, I noticed a black wire (bare at the end) coming from the firewall to the hole where the tubes for the Heater core and the Evaporator were. Does anyone know where this wire is to be re-attached?

Check to see if that black wire goes to the compressor clutch.  On my 65, it comes out of the firewall where the condenser tubes go into the firewall.

I see that wire (the one to the compressor), It is not that one. This wire comes from the same place in the fire wall as your wire, but instead of going towards the compressor, it goes from the hole in the firewall on the drivers side, to the hole on the passengers side --- on the firewall. The hole on the passengers side has the two tubes for the heater core and the two for the AC condenser. I hit the wire last night with my multitester while working all the fan controls and did not get a reading, so my assumption is the wire is a ground... I attached it to a screw on the condenser and hooked everything back up. I now have heat (new heater core) and as soon as I can get new AC hoses, will see about the air..

Many thanks for your help.
