1967 engine swap
« on: January 22, 2008, 09:17:05 PM »
I am looking a buying a 1967 mustang. It currently has a 6 in it but I was told that it had had a 8 in it before that, my quetion is if I go back to a 8 is there any change in the motor mounts?
New guy so go easy.

The motor mounts should be the same.  I would think.

Who would place a 6 cylinder in a V8 Mustang?  ???
I am afraid they are not the same mounts. From what California Mustangs shows in their website, both engines have distinctive motor mounts. Link
If you have the VIN number we will be able to tell you if the car came with a V8 for sure. If not you will probably have to replace the transmission, suspensions and rear end too.

Thierry is correct.  The motor mounts are entirely different.  Don't go by what someone tells you about what used to be in that car.  Look at the differential.  If it is an 8", then it was indeed a V8 car at one time.  If it is a 7.4 inch, then it is and has always been a 6 banger.  Look at your VIN.  If it is a T code, then it is a 6 banger.  If it is a C or A code, then it used to be a V8.  The code for the engine is the 5th digit of the warranty number.  That tag on the door, plus the VIN under the hood on the driver's side on the top of the inner fender is where your VIN is located on 65-67 cars.  68-73 found the number also on the driver's side dash.
