Fender Repair and quarters?
« on: March 20, 2006, 06:04:47 PM »
I just found out that my body guy wants to charge me like 2800 to fix my quarters and my fender aprons. The question that I have is the fender aprons that hard to fix they are telling me that they need to be welded back in but from what I have seen is that it looks like it is justed screwed in there. I also want to know some goods tips to replace jsut a piece fo my rear fenders I know I can use bondo but in the long run it will cause problems so hook me up.STANG OUT

those aprons look like mine.

They only way to do those is take the motor out ,then cut the spot welds with a special drill bit, take off ,match up new one and spot weld it.

As for the quarters I know a guy that did mine for 700 per side and thats a full quarter. you might be able to get away with just a partial.

So it is just a spot welded huh, I was hoping that is was just a bolt on thing but I think I can do it. As far as the fenders they are in good condition but have some cancer towards the front of them. I am hoping to do it myself but don't know but that sounds like a good deal thanks BRO. STANG OUT

For a quick fix you may want to try the POR-15 products. It may not be the perfect solution but better than bondo until you can afford to have the panels replaced.
Here is an article about the use of Por15 on floor panels:

I am reading into that and it might be a good deal I already have my aprons so that isn't a big thing now and I have a new bud that does SODA BLASTING and that is the lastest and great for paint and rust removal. The quarters are kind of bad but not the worst. I am on the look for what to do,lol.  That is the worse side right there.STANG OUT

you know what has caused that canser on the fenders.  The mud flaps.  they hold junk and stuff and will cause that spot to rust.

if you can weld at all cut the spot out of the quarters and weld a part of 18 gauge steel back.  If you wait till you get to fort knox get with marty and see if they can help.  Marty has a family member that is said to be a good body man.

yeah race said they weren't that much at all and I hate those dam mud flaps I promised that I would rip them off as soon as I ripped of the vynil top and I haven't gotten around to doing either of those right now. I cannot wait to get the body back to mint or as close as it will let you know those fords are hard to work with, lol. I wanted to cut them out myself but I have a feeling that I will cut out tomuch or something and not be able to mach it and jsut end up screwing the whole thing up. I am thinking about getting it all back to primer and getting it up there and if your body guy is to busy then I see what else is around I am sure I can find a good deal somewhere. STANG OUT

fenders are expensive for the 73, I got mine from Johns Texas Mustangs for 500 bucks shipped. shipping alone was 150,,ouch

make sure its a 73 cause 71 and 72 will not fir cause if the differnt bumpers.

I think the vinyl looks rather dashing.... what color are you thinking about?

Nice color scheme racedraper that would look sick bro I was thinking about going with a lighter or regular silver and maybe outlining the hood with the black on the ram air since that would also make the spoiler stand out in the back. Hey GodFather how do I get ahold of the marty man I went to the website but I cannot really findout how to work it to well just yet.  I looked for you on there and your car but I couldn't find you man where ya at. Keep the Ideas comming everyday I learn more and think of new things to do and oh bye the way to vinyl top has to go it is ugly and makes the car look like a old guy drives it,lol.STANG OUT
