1968 Coupe original upholstry question
« on: January 06, 2011, 02:58:20 PM »
I am restoring a 68 Coupe. The plate on the door says the original paint color was Wimbleton White and the upholstery was parchment, easy enough. What I can not find out is what the carpet,dash and steering wheel colors were originally. Is there a place to find this or a standard that came with each color?

We need some more info from the door data tag - standard bucket (codes 2U, 6U*); full width seat (codes 8U, 9U*); comfort weave bucket (codes 7U, 5U*). Codes with an * are used with the Decor Group.

The "2Y" is the key, and it's not Parchment, it's Nugget Gold. You still need the same answer to the paint;
Dark Nugget Gold, code 5799 - instrument panel pad retainer, defroster louvers, rear window molding;
Light Nugget Gold, code 5800 - instrument panel, steering column, quarter panel moldings, door metal surfaces, console.
The paint is available from most Mustang stores. Seat covers are available in Nugget Gold, but I don't know what color the carpet would be (only Ivy Gold is offered) or the dash pad (again only Ivy Gold is offered).

I wound up getting Ivy gold carpet even though most of the rest of the interior is  a Palomino.  You're not going  to find an interior color matching on these old Mustangs.
