what do you guys think of this set up with a turbo
« on: July 25, 2010, 07:00:35 PM »
hey everyone,

ok so i have been building my 306 for the last 7 months, I picked up a turbo kit from a good friend that had lost his car. The turbo kit is now a universal kit do to the fact he bought it for his bmw. What is done to motor is, it's bored out .30 with D.S.S forged flat tops with hasting rings on stock connecting rods, stock crank cut and polished .010 under. E7ET heads with a slight mill to clean them up, .600 spring, stock valves, stock push rods, 1.6 roller tip rockers.

The cam is a E-303. Intake is the cobra upper and lower with 65mm T/B. I put on the BBK fuel rail kit, with a holley adjustable reg. I have 19lbs injectors hooked up right now one because i wasnt planning on running any type of boost this early. I have a 255 walboro ready to go in also.. what do you guys think about this set up?

know i do know that the stock heads are s*** and not going to help but do more hurt. I will be replacing them with a set of dart heads around tax time. Just need to get the car up and running soon. driving me nuts not driving her.
thanks for any help guys

turbo size is a t3/t4 and either a 50 or 63 trim not a 100% sure. and my goal is to run 8lbs of boost on a daily.. thanks for the input..

well the turbo is way small and you might need a pair of them to make that work, the t3 exhaust is just too small for the 5.0 motor, but a pair of them is perfect, cause thats only 2.5 litres per   turbo. now as far as the heads go, with the right boost you will max out your block at 550 crank hp, so stock heads would be okl. the rods are a major concern, not that they are weak under a load but the exact opposite. they are pleanty strong "under load" but there weak spot is letting off under boost. the top that attaches to the piston can and will break the "crown" off. they are good up to 450 hp with auto and less with stick due to the lifting of gas pedal and then slaming back down. which also leads to the crank the on and off and on of the accelator well snap the stock crank, your best bet is to find one more turbe ecactly like the one you have and run 6-8 psi that should give you around 330-375 crank hp which is totaly safe to run all day!  good luck with it.  p.s. turbos are the best hands down for making power!!
