what do you guys think is better to do
« on: January 29, 2010, 01:04:35 AM »
ok so the other day i went to go replace my water pump do to it being old and leaking. so any ways after getting the old one off and going to put the new one on i relized that one bolt wasnt going in right so come to find out the bolt hole was stripped out by the previous owner and he just put a bunch of rtv in the hole and put the the bolt back in. so now i took the timeing cover off to re tap in and the out side hole just feel apart, and pretty bad to where i have to haveit filled and redrilled. i am just about to pull this oe out and trash it get another block and build a 331 stroker. so i was also thinking either 331 or 4.6 motor swap if i did the 4.6 would it just be plug n play or would there have to be some modifing. is the trans the same as the 5.0 t5? what do you guys think is better and cheaper i have maybe 2,000 to play with.......

the 331 would be better. for now you should be able to use a helicoil on the stripped hole. theyre not hard to do and cheap.

+1 on the helicoil.  That'll get you back on the road while deciding which way to go on the new motor.

I drilled it out and taped it wit a helicoil and from the size of the coil offset it the thikness of the coil which wasn't very big maybe half a center meter. And I got a coil the would b standered for the stock bolts of 5/16
