Topic: Transmission problems please help!

I just installed a new clutch in my 88 gt mustang. After i got everything back put together and adjusted the clutch to the proper spot, i'm having a difficult time engaging the tranny in 2nd, 4th, and reverse. Is there any alingment that i needed to do to the transmission to prevent this or what can i do? Also there is a humming noise, possibly coming from the throwout bearing but it only makes the noise when the car is in neutral, any ideas what this is and how to fix it? I installed a brand new clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing, retaining bearing, and clutch cable w/ firewall adjuster. Thanks!

You still don't have your cable adjusted properly.  Consider getting a firewall adjustable quadrant.  You can get those at Summit.  They have the entire clutch cable package.  I put one in my nephew's 02 GT in one afternoon, so it's no big deal.  The self adjustable quadrant is a POS.

also i cant remember but if you pull the boot on your shifter there is a set screw for the shifter. i know there is one for 1st, 3rd, and 5th but i cant remember if there is one for 2, 4, r. i had a problem where i couldnt shift to 1, 3, or 5 and that was the problem. the screw rattled forward and wouldnt let me engage those gears. just an idea.

Nah, you don't want to go messing around with those screws.  Just get a Steeda short throw shifter and be done with it.  That shifter just guides the tranny into each gear without any effort. 
The original 3650 shifter is a POS.  Here, I'll make it easy for you to order it.

i wasnt thinking but i have a b m short throw so i wasnt sure if he had those screws or not.

i have a short throw shifter and i have alot of transmission problems its not the end all be all of tranmission problems
