Stock Mustang GT 5.0 Cut out the cats?
« on: December 07, 2008, 11:16:22 PM »
Okay I have a stock 1995 Mustang GT 5.0 and I want it to sound louder then it is right now. I read somewhere online before that my mustang should have 6 catalytic converters? I wanted to buy a catless off road h-pipe but isn't that basically an h-pipe with the cats cut out and replaced with just regular piping? i mean couldn't i do that? Im fairly new to Mustangs and exhaust systems but the main reason why i want to cut out my cats is because its cheap. Despite it being illegal in my state... Is there anything im not understanding clearly? Because i want to know what to ask for when i go to my friends muffler shop... who is willing to change whatever i want on my cars exhaust.whether its legal or not. Also can you guys find me a vid on youtube of just a stock 5.0 with the cats cut out? i want to know what mine would sound like if i got them cut out. I dont want it to be too crazy that i get pulled over right away... Thanks!

Okay i stopped by my muffler shop the other day. He actually wasn't willing at all to mess with the catalytic converters.. he said the way for me to go to get that sound would be to add two flowmasters.. and he said something about turning the piping or something down... i dont know. What do you guys think?

Since there is no longer a sniffing device to check for pollution output at inspection, you can cut out all that shit and have a direct flow from the headers through the H or X pipe and out the Flowmaster 40 series.  Now, that is the law in Texas.  Check with your state regs to make sure you can do that before you do.  Cover your ass before you make any alterations.

Well i live in California.. and its the strictest place as far as emissions control. i think im just gonna go with the flowmasters then... id like to cut out all that shit.. but its not legal over here.... :(

And, what inspection method does California use that other states don't?  Here in Texas, all they inspect are the brakes and lights.  If the land of the  fruits and nuts expects anything more, then you need to get off your butt and rally to get that inspection law amended.

CA emissions is similar to Connecticut and it sucks big time. You can't cut the cats out or take them off, the fines are major.. I know in Connecticut the fine for removing a functioning cat is 10k. I think CA is the same. Your only option is a High Flow Cat-Pipe that is CARB Legal.. I'm not sure if there is one.
