I have a 91 5.0 LX that is essentially stock (K&N Air Filter). For the last few years, the engine starts normally when it is cold (and cool), but when the engine is hot, the starter will simply not turn the engine over. In fact, if I hold the ignition key turned to the start position for any extended period of time or make several attempts to engage the starter, I can see and smell smoke coming from the wiring near the battery terminals. I assume the starter is locked up or ? and the electrical power is basically shorting out causing excessive heat to build in the wires. I usually end up pushing it and popping the clutch to start the engine. Please offer any advice or thoughts on this issue. Thanks!
