speedo gear problem
« on: June 05, 2010, 09:13:01 AM »
I just put in a AOD in the stang, and the speedo gear is the wrong size that was in the tranny. I have 3.73s in the rear, and the car it came out of had 2.73s in it. so, that gear is not going to work anyway. All I need to know is what size gear i need and where to find one. I cheacked with the local parts store, and I think they never heard of one. thanks

That's usually a dealer item but you may find out info at Mustang's Plus http://www.mustangsplus.com/ in Stockton, CA or at Summit Racing http://summitracing.com/ or at Jegs http://jegs.com/

CJ Pony Parts also has a butt load of speedo gears on Page 76 of their catalog.
Give them a call to see which one you need.

No problem.  Jim and I have more catalogs and information than you could possibly ever need.  Check out the FAQ section in the classic section.  There is a library of information there.  It took me 2 years to put that together, and I'm still adding to it.  If you have some sites I haven't covered, lay it on me.

I don't pay that much attention to newer Mustangs (I don't own one) but apparently the speedometed gears for ATs and/or MTs are the same thru 1998. In the CJ online catalog, they also list one for an AOD transmission. From my notes, more teeth for a higher rear end ratio, less teeth for smaller tires.
