Runability problems
« on: June 20, 2008, 11:56:28 AM »
I have a 1966 Mustang Convertible Restomod, with a 1992 5.0 rebuilt(2/07) .030 stock piston, stock heads, mild erson cam, 65mm throttle body, A9p computer, rebuilt AOD with shift kit and b&M torque master 2400 stahl, 150lph fuel pump, cobra intake, 19# injectors, 1 5/8" headers, stock distributor, ford racing coil, ford fuel injection wriing harness, 8" 380 posi.
The car starts and idles fine, runs up to 3000 rpm and it starts sputtering and back fires, I have changed computers, distributors, modules, wiring harness. I have checked timing and tried advancing timing with no luck, it seems as if the distributor starts to retard as the engine rpms climb. HELP!!!

Checked tps settings they were with in tolerances, new cap, rotor, wires, plugs, spout plugged in, cleaned maf sensor, but I did not disconnect the battery afterwards. I put another ground wire going from the distributor ground to the engine block and to the coil, I also cleaned the coil ground, it got better 4500 rpm's before it started cutting out. I will disconnect battery tonight and re-check timing tomorrow.

Yeah, anytime you make changes, you need to disconnect the battery to reset the puter.

I figured out my problem, I had the wire that goes to the starter solenoid on the wrong side of the solenoid, runs great now, it had voltage but would drop out at higher rpms.
