roller rockers
« on: March 03, 2008, 12:30:21 PM »
i was thinking about moving up to 1.7 roller rockers. i just dont know if they will work with the stock pistons. i have a b303 cam, so i have the lift i would just like the duration. after talking with a few guys it seems 1.7's are the way to go. i hope that someone could shed some light on this subject for me.

its not so much the lift but the duration that the problem, but as always its recommended to check ptv(piston to valve clearance)

i dont know the numbers for the ptv. all i can tell you right now is that they are stock pistons in a gt-40 motor with a b303 cam that has a 480 lift with 1.6 rockers. i dont know if thats enough info. if not i will try to find it out.

They will fit, and no you dont need new pushrods or valve covers. They come with shims to make up differences in length to get them torqued properly, you may have to remove or modify the oil neck baffle on the passenger side valve cover though so they wont hit it

We have an unwritten rule here.  Once you ask questions about a project, and the project gets finished, then you have to report back in and tell us how it turned out.  ;D

i just finished getting the motor put back together after the oil pressure issue. now i am timing it. i am in the navy so my time tables for projects span a little longer. in about a month or two is when i am changing the roller rockers.

Are you a seaman, or are you a land lubber Navy man?   ;D  I taught school for DoDDS at the Yokosuka Naval Base in Yokosuka, Japan for awhile, and the fathers of my kids were always out to sea for months at a time.

Submariner, huh?  I feel for your guys, and yet I would like to be several hundred feet under the ocean, and still be able to breathe and work. You military guys are my heroes.

well thanks for the support. its not all that great. not being on the surface in bad sea states is a plus though. it also limits our ports though. but like everything theres pros and cons right.
