Oil pressure
« on: September 18, 2006, 08:47:09 PM »
I have a 1990 stang, with a rebuilt 302 with 45.000 mile on it. It runs great. All the gauges read fine but Recently Ive noticed the oil pressure fluctuating once the car warms up, especially when the car is at a stand still. At idle the pressure drops, considerable. I assume the gauge reads from 25psi, 50psi, 75psi, 100psi increments.  I noticed it drops fairly low at about 15psi at stand still but when i rev up the engine it goes up to normal.

What can this be? can i make any ajustments to correct this?

thats normal  also you could get a new guage to make sure.  but if you want ,upgrade to a high volume and not pressure.

High volume cerculate more oil into your motor . it lubricates you parts alot more. which is good. Hi pressure is just that increases you oil pressure.

I get it. How do i do that?
Is it a part replacement to increase the volume or is it something i can ajust with a screwdriver?

I am not the technical guy here but I think Racedraper means you should replace your oil pump by a high volume one.

Before you try to replace the pump. I would make sure sending unit is working right. And replacing pump may not fix problem. If bearing clearence are to big. A rebuild on motor may be needed. So if no ticking ,,lifter noise can be herd , it could be ok. Did I clear it up for you?
