did you set the timing with a light and the spout disconnected?  if not you need to remove the spout and then start the car 10beg btdc is stock but you can go higher i run about 12deg in my 5.0 but if you go higher then you need to run mid grade or premium also. but there will be an increase in gas mileage that will offset the additional cost.
"Spout?"  ;D I hope you are referring to the vacuum advance from the bottom of the carb to the distributor.  I've never heard it called a spout, but then again I ain't from Jawja.   ;D
Yeah, be sure to plug up the vacuum hose that is connected to the distributor before timing it with a light.  Try a couple of settings.  Try 8 degrees BTDC first, then try 10 or so.  See which one your engine and set-up likes best.  Get that Pertronix electronic ignition for under 75 bucks, and you will thank me many times after installing it.  If you want to go hotrod, then consider the MSD system.

now im no sure its the timing. i thought i had heard a vacuum problem so i got some strting fluid. so i sprayed it on the intake where the spacer is and it revved up. so now i have to pull the upper plenum off and check the spacer and the gaskets.a friend of mine who is ase certified said i might have used too much silicone. i hope thats it.

haha no vacuum on a 5.0 efi motor the "spout" is a little jumper wire that goes into a set of wires coming from the dist. when you unplug it it lets you set the base timing. m you probably be the most happy with 12deg it will be a happy medium. andd a kick in the pants compared to 10

I have to admit, I am out of my league with these EFI's.  That's why your are here Stephen.  Spout, huh????  ;D

so youre talking about one of the wires running to the plug for the dist. what color is the specific wire youre talking about.

well there was a vacuum leak. it wasnt fron the upper intake but from between the lower intake and the head. it runs great and i am finally happy. now that thats out of the way the next thing is new brakes. i will be leaving underway for 3 1/2 weeks so it will have to wait a little while. so thanks for all the help. i will try to get some new pics soon. thanks again guys.
