Need Help: 1995 GT 5.0 V8 standard
« on: August 31, 2010, 11:00:11 PM »
Hello All.

I am trying to help out a relative.  I am not very automotive savy.  I am studying mechanical engineering so I can understand anything you will provide, but please excuse my lack of real auto knowledge.  My grandmother is about 57 years old and is having a horrible time with her purple baby.  I was contacted because she doesn't feel comfortable on the internet.  Here is the story:

1. began not starting promptly

2. beginning of july she was driving on the highway and it died (tach to 0 entirely dead) and restarted immediately twice on the same trip. [she has been told that this had nothing to do with it...but she did hit the bottom of the front end on a curb right before she left because she had to back up over someones lawn due to cars in the way.  she has also been told that the only reason the car restarted was because it was a standard.]

3.  took car to shop and they couldn't find anything wrong

4.  had a friend put a fuel filter on

5.  day and a half of driving followed the fuel filter installation and then it wouldn't start

6.  towed....got fuel pump

7.  day and a half of driving followed the fuel pump installation and then it wouldn't start

8.  towed to different shop. Has been there for two and a half weeks.  they have replaced the mass air sensor, cam sensor, idle error sensor, battery cables.  Essentially everything they can think of.  according to the shop the car is starting 9/10 times.  I don't have specifics on exactly what they mean by that.

My grandmother has to take my 96 year old great grandmother to appointments regularly and she can't run the chance of getting stranded in Arkansas heat.  If anyone has ANY ideas that I can pass on to her I will be beyond appreciative!

Sincerest thanks to any suggestions,

Justin

Justin, did the shop run the numbers (codes)?  Meaning, did they hook up an electronic tool under the dash and analyze the problem?  The problem could be most anything, and with these newer Mustangs it is difficult to know what the problem is because you have a computer that runs any and everything that is electrical on that pony, and the only way to analyze it would be to run the codes.  My suggestion is that you take it to a reputable Ford dealer and have them repair it.

Mine did the same
.SCARY@70!!
 Its her TFI module
(located on passenger quarter panel wall behind air cleaner)
my lil red pony cruisin in the fastlane once again.
(Don't forget the di-electrical grease)
the problem is overlooked cuz Ford had relocated the module due to excessive heat.
.but apparently. The grease melts away & it gets corroded.. I was happy with the under 50buck fix..

Sounds like crap in the fuel tank. What did the old filter look like? If you still have it, cut it open.
16 year old car that has probably never been filled up, may have rust in the tank.

Dang, I didn't look at the date, the car is probably gone by now.
