Topic: My New 1985 Mustang Gt 5.0 (Need Help) lots of it....

Hey guys im new to both mustangs and to posting in these forums. I have read them for a long time and gathered that there are some seasoned pros here and all others seem very knowledgeable. So with that said i just bought a1985 mustang gt 5.0 4bbl stock as of now. I was wondering what my first step to preparing this car for a single turbocharger would be, example: like cams,headers, or just a tune up thanks for your thoughts in advance and if you wouldn't mind stating the price and difficulty of the job along with your post id really appreciated it Thanks!

You need to tell us just how mean you want that puppy to be, and how deep your pockets are.  The old saying is that power costs money.

Haha i hear ya well i want to produce around 350-400hp money wise im 17 ill just leave it at that

Then, just drive the car as it is until you have enough money to invest in power options.

I'm not too familiar with the '85 5.0 engine, so I'll let some of the other guys help you make a hotrod out of it.  In the meantime, google "Crate Engines" to see what one would cost you in that power range.

gears are probably the first place to start. of course heads, cam and an intake would be a good also. i would check out any junkyards in your area and look for some explorer, expedition or trucks with a 351 in them and see what you can get off them.

OK, Duhhhh!  Now I remember that it wasn't until 1988 that the Windsor engines got rid of the carbs.  Get some AFR 165 heads, or steal some GT 40 heads from a junk yard.  put on a Weiand intake manifold and a decent 4 barrel carb.  Follow that up with a mild cam and some decent headers.  Follow that up with 2 1/2" pipes with an X pipe and some 40 series Flowmaster mufflers.  Gears should be 355's for around town, and 410's for the strip.
