95 GT 5.0 convert.occasional no -start
« on: October 21, 2010, 08:35:36 PM »
Newbie to the site. Had problems with random no-start which is driving me bonkers. Car runs well and runs strong when it starts. . 165,000K(app. 97,000 m). Car starts when cold everytime, When driven to normal operating temp then shut off for 20 mins or so, it will not restart! Let it sit for another 40 mins or so and it fires right up!! If I shut it off then immediately try to restart, it fires right up.  I have replaced the fuel pump, plugs, wires, distributor, TFI module and just replaced the coolant temp sensor. I don't have equipment to do all the tests but have had it to a couple shops and mechanics are perplexed to say the least. Everything seems to check out! They have tried some of their own web sites to no avail. Seems like a vapor lock  my dad used to have on his old Dodge in the 60's!! Can't sell it, can't drive it. I love the car but it is driving me nuts. Thanks for any help!!!!Collilar

maybe the solenoid or, if your car has one, theres a small circuit breaker near the area of the battery where your solenoid and a few other wires run to. good luck and welcome to the site.

I appreciate the quick reply. The car always cranks over, just occasionally won't start. Thanks again!

Sounds like vapor lock to me also.  However, if your fuel pump is located in the tank, that is most likely not the problem.  Check to make sure your fuel lines are not close to any heat.

its probably the TFI module on the right hand side of the engine bay...they will get hot and not start till they cool down again...or the probable is the PIP n the distributor...

Yeah, something is getting hot.  My suspect would be fuel related.  But, Steve may be on target.  We can only guess here on the internet without being there first hand.  Take it to a reputable shop and have them check it out.

well my recommendation is to drive the car to the parts store and take off the tfi in the parking lot while its acting up and get it tested(there is a 3-4$ tool used to remove it you buy it at autozone etc) they will test the module for free ;)

The car always starts when cold. After driving for a while it will do the no start after sitting for 10 mins but will always start 30 - 45  mins later, continually does this. It never stalls. Would the TFI and PIP cause this?I will have them  tested. I  am putting the car away for winter storage . Getting cold up here. Take it out again in April. Thank you all for your help!! I do appreciate it.
