I have a 1979 Indy pace car that has the 302 in it. I just recently went from the toploader 4 spd to the T-5z 5 speed. I took that opportunity after hearing a chattering sound similar to a wollowed out cam journal.It has managed to drive me up the wall as I can't seem to find it but have narrowed the sound down to the bellhousing after some careful prodding with a stethiscope (or however it is spelled). The oddest thing of it all is as the car is driven the chatter seems to get quieter and eventually is almost non existent.
I was curious if anyone has heard of this or could give me an idea as to where to look for the issue. The car shifts fine and I have already changed out the throwout bearing and pilot bushing. I have worked on cars for 15 years and never heard of such a thing.
Help me out if you guys can before I have to go see a car shrink!!!!
