5.0 COBRA PERFORMANCE ISSUES
« on: April 19, 2009, 02:32:49 PM »
MY COBRA WHEN FIRST STARTED REGAURDLESS OF OUTSIDE TEMPS FAILS ON ITS FACE WHEN MORE THAN SLIGHT ACCELERATION IS ATTEMPTED.. RUNS MUCH BETTER WHEN IT WARMS UP A LITTLE.. BUT NOT AS STRONG AGAIN WHEN IT REACHES NORMAL OPPERATING TEMPS?? HAVE REPLACED TEMP SENSOR, & MASS AIRFLOW SENSOR.. IT ACTS LIKE A CARBORATED VEHICLE WHEN THE CHOKE ISNT WORKING PROPERLY..??

Have you tried cleaning the injectors yet?  If not, you may want to do that.  Here is a "How To."

No, I haven`t tried cleaning injectors yet.. I`ll look into the "how to"... another thing I forgot to mention is the car sits a lot, I dont drive it all winter, and only get it out on nice days...it also has a fluctuating idle speed after it warms up.. dont know if that"ll help you help me, but I really appreciate you trying to help & your reply... I`ve been asking friends & mechanics bout this issue for a long time & I`m just trying to fix the problem on my own without taking to dealer or something...

probably the fuel pump, next time you start it up try priming the pump(turning the key one and off a few times) and see how it does

One ov my friends mentioned the fuel pump also... I`ve tried "cycling the ignition" to try & raise fuel pressure, but it didn`t make a diff... It doesnt make sense (2 me anyway) that a @ approx 150 deg. (guessing) it runs like a scalded dog !!?? could it still be fuel pump?? Seems to me it`d never run really good if it was fuel pump.. I`m decent with older stuff, but new stuff with elec pumps, injectors, computers & such kinda get my head spinning...

I hear ya' Jax.  That's why I take my 03 Mach to a modern mechanic who is trained in all the computer crap.  I have never had my 65 worked on by anybody but me, and she runs like a scalded cat.  But the 65 is a simplistic machine compared to the Mach.  Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and take her to a mechanic who has all the modern testing tools and training to do the job right.
