347 Stroker Build. Recommendations?
« on: January 21, 2011, 10:08:07 AM »
Looking at putting a 302 stroked to 347 in my 84 stang.
Uses: Strip and Street. Mostly Strip. Looking at around 400-450 HP

Powertrain:
Heads: AFR 205 or AFR 225?
Intake: Edelbrock Performer Air-Gap
Cam: Lunati Hydro Roller Cam - 55118
Carb : Quick Fuel 850 cfm QFT-Q-850-AN
Rotating Assembly: Scat SCA-1-45310BE
Ignition : MSD 6AL-2 Box, MSD Magnetic Dizzy

Drivetrain:
Torque ConvertorHUP-51-30
Transmission: Built AOD with full manual valve body and trans brake.
Rear end: 8.8 inch. dunno what locker or gear ratio.

My questions are
1. What gear ratio and locker should I use?
2. Would you change anything in this set up?
3. How much HP/TQ would you estimate it at?\
4. Which AFR heads?

ok check this out....  AOD is a great choice, being as you have overdrive, go with some 4.11 gears.  the engine should easly make that power but the cam in questionable.  afr 225 heads with forged crank, rods and pistons, and i hope you put this shit in a aftermarket block  (man-o-war block) also if you are going to spray or forced induction  keep the compression in mind when building it.  high compression for spary low for forced induction.  but with the parts you state the cam is going to be the item that will limit your power out put.  and lastly run at least a 4000+ stall converter and if money prevails get a holley dominator carb!

agree with the 4.11 gears

Could not see the cam profile, but . . . absent a radical cam and the 225 heads and a power adder 850 CFM carb is probably overkill-if you go with it, you will want to change the jets before the first use.
