1995 T5 pops out of first ... help!
« on: November 29, 2008, 11:52:56 PM »
Greetings,

My 1995 Mustang GT 5.0 T5 pops out of first gear when letting the clutch out.  I have changed the syncros after consulting many sources, but it still pops out 90% of the time (shifts better now FWIW).   The shift fork did not "seem" to be bent, but it's the only thing I can think of that it might be.  Sometimes it will stay in first even under a full throttle launch.

I'm a little mystified and hope someone here can offer advice before I yank it out again.

Normally, that is a syncronizer issue.  Yank it out and replace all parts that are involved with the shifting system.  Otherwise you are going to go nuts trying to narrow it down by replacing one thing at a time.  Otherwise, take it to the Ford house and pay their mechanics to fix it.  That may cost you less, and less grease under your fingernails. Tell Mama that she just gave you a merry Christmas present and your Mustang is bad again.    ;D

asre you running the correct tranny fluid?? alot of people try and use manual transmission oil.

but a t5 use ATF fluid, if you use the wrong thing the bearing will burn up and the synchros will not work right
