« on: June 28, 2010, 07:06:36 PM »
Ok Please Help if You Can!!!
From the start:
Mustang was driving great...
Parked, set for an hour, came back out...NO START!!!
First...Changed Ignition Coil.
Second...Changed Distributor Cap, Rotor Button, Spark Plugs.
Third...Fuel Filter.
Forth...TFI Module.
Got it started drove to car wash...died 3 times on the way home but made it home.
Fifth...Alternator and Ignition Coil (again).
Finally got it to start, adjusted timing...
Ran for several minutes then died...Will restart "IF" fuel pump only "Primes and stops" if fuel pump does not shut off car WILL NOT START!!!
Today bought...Fuel Pump Relay (under drivers seat) It had 5 blades instead of 4...didn't work...and a fuel pressure gauge to make sure I had pressure at the rails...42 with ignition on not running 32 with engine running...
and A New Battery...
Ran longer than before but still will not start if the fuel pump does not turn off...
Can Anybody Help Me?!?!?!
Thanks In Advance,

U need run codes. That should give u an accurate place to start. Sounds like u hit all the places id start. One thing it could be is the timing chain. Ive heard of them jumping. Good luck.

Ok so have it narrowed down...seems to be electrical...Fuel pump relay in the car has only 4 of the 5 blades in it as opposed to the new one that has 5...can I pull the one that is missing from the old one out of the new one or not? Its only a $15 part...also a strange clicking in the kick panel passenger side when the fuel pump kicks on...any suggestions from these details?
Thanks in Advance,

Try changing your fuel filter after you get the right relay. It kinda sounds like you have a possible clog?  Also, look under the car on the passenger side, you are going to locate the supply and return fuel lines, where they run under the frame they tend to smash or kink from speedbumps and that can kill your car performance.

Take it to a Ford dealership, and have them run the codes.  You are just throwing good money after bad.  It could be just about anything.

That's just a guess.  Take it in and have it analyzed.

***UPDATE***
Leak in fuel rail...Considering upgrade to BBK HighFlow rails and new injectors as well as adjustable fuel pressure regulator. Been studying online and seems that the stock fuel pump will accomodate the rails...Any suggestions?
Thanks In Advance,

feul rails are not going to help with any performance unless you are running a 500hp car. and your pump will not be affected unless you have more than 350 hp at the wheels. larger 24lb injectors can be ran with a a stock pump.

It is your fuel pump. I have had this happen to me many times over the many fox's I have owned. Seems fine, sputters, dies, will start again 'later'. Drop tank, put in new pump, and you are golden.
