'94 5.0 H.O. with AOD in a '67 GTA?

I have found a 5.0 H.O. with attached AOD out of a 1994 Thunderbird, and am thinking it would be a great drivetrain for my '67 GTA project, can anyone think of any gotcha's that might prevent this? Any tips or tricks would be appreciated.

you can make it work, idk what computer system the tbird uses but the EFI setup from the 89-93 is the most popular to use

I've been trying to find more info, but I can't seem to find much info on the '94 stuff. I wonder what the difference is between the 89-93 and the 94 stuff?

k, I looks like it's actually a '93 5.0 HO with AOD. I have to run fuel lines regardless of carb or EFI, so would that engine and tranny a good choice for a '67 GTA? I live a 7k feet, with alot of altitude changes +/- 3k ft within 20 miles, that is the main reason for thinking about EFI.

Your quick and drastic altitude changes would be hell on adjusting a carburetor, so the EFI would be your wisest choice I would think. That is going to be one quick '67 if it all works out.

This may seem a little unrelated but I have a 1984 Mazda 626 that is carbureted and it came with some kind of automatic adjuster for altitude from the factory. Is nothing like that available?

Interesting Konrad, I have never heard of that. That doesn't surprise me much though :-).
I am just now getting back into the car/restoration arena after many years of being "away" (10+ years I don't really remember, then marriage, kids, etc...), so throughout this process, I'm sure I'll discover alot, and probably remember more than I ever knew.
I figure the 5.0 EFI motors with AOD are pretty plentiful, as well as relatively cheap, and new OEM parts are still readily available, so besides the alititude factor, that is one of the main reason I'm thinking of one of those EFI motor/tranny combo's.
This project is for my wife surprise anniversary gift, it is her dream car, a '67 GTA Convertible, basically building it up from scratch. I know I have plenty of options, so I'm just reaching out to those that have done it, do it, &/or have the knowledge and may have any advice, etc... for a renewed newbie.

also is this an AOD or an AODE(electronic)??

I'm not exactly sure whether it's AOD or AODE, but I'm guessing E. But isn't that controlled through the same EEC as the engine anyway?

iirc it is, but it might complicate the swap unless you get a stand alone processor.
the 89-93 mustang mass air ECM for the engine is the best if you plan on making changes down the road it adapts very well

Decisions decisions, I just came across a great running '70 429 big block with C6 still in the car with only 77k original miles, runs great, doesn't smoke, doesn't burn oil, and pretty cheap. hmmmm.......

That wouldn't be a decision for me at all. I would snap up that 429 in a heartbeat.

If it were for me, I'd already have it. I'm just worried that it may be too much for my wife to handle, as this project/present may end up being a daily driver. But it would be a cheap initial cost, I'm sure gas would get pricey with that motor. :-)

Nobody drives a muscle car with gas mileage or gas prices in mind. If your wife can't handle it, then get her a Toyota Corolla, and buy the 429 for you.

LOL, I hear ya.
I had a Bronco with a built 351w in it that she loved stomping on the gas with, that's for sure. I'm just a little hesitant to throw even more power in an even lighter vehicle. That's where I was thinking the 5.0 might be a good balance, but hell, I can drive the 429 home for only $900.... hmmm......

Your wife can learn to handle it. My wife learned to drive my O3 Mach 1 pretty quickly and she absolutely loves the power. Even if that 429 is a CJ, it can't possibly be quicker than my 4.6 Mach. So go for it. Hey, for 900 beans, you can't go wrong. A Ford Bronco is heavier than a Mustang? I think I would look that up.

The Bronco I had was a '92, which curb weighted around 4500 lbs, and from the specs I could find on the '67 GTA Convertible, even with a 390 it was around 3800 lbs. So not as big of a difference as I though, but still a decent difference.
Found another posting with the following specs for the '67, so guess it all depends on what you find:
1967 Mustang Convertible, 2,855 lb. (Six), 3,045 lb (V-8).

Yeah, the 92's were a little heavier than the earlier Broncos I guess. Just tell mama she is just going to have to paint a permanent smile on her face.

Okay, well, that 429/C6 turned out to be a pile of crap. However, I am off tonight to pick up an '89 5.0 roller block with nib 347 4340 stroker crank, Keith Black flattop pistons, summit racing H Beam rods, Anderson Ford Motor sport B1 cam, Airtec aluminum water pump, underdrive pulleys, clevite engine bearings and '69 351w heads, "and more". As well as a disassembled '69 429 engine with c9ve heads and a "very big cam" with a bbf C6 tranny. I'm not sure which I'll put in, but either way I should be covered. And I am getting all of it cheap enough so I can sell whichever I don't use to complete the other.
