You will gain a few ponies of performance because of the better aspriration aspect of the X over the H, but don't  hold you breath.  As far as sound, not any.  Don't waste your bucks if you are looking to get more power and a louder sound from the H to X conversion.  Forget it.

Sorry, I can't answer that question, because I have no experience with those mufflers.  However, if you don't get the sound you want from a Mustang with the 40 series, you are in trouble with the law.  We have muffler sound clips in the Classic section.  Listen to those to make a choice.

SLP Mufflers are raspy and obnoxious. If that's the sound you like sure.

If you add a chambered style Off-Road X (Bassani, BBK) It'll give it a real raspy sound.

Which sounds like what your looking for......

Don't use the Smooth X Design if your looking the raspy sound (Magnaflow, SLP, MRT etc)

The Chambered X actually has a Welded X piece in the middle. You can see the welds where the chamber is.

The smooth X has no welded X, the entire pipe is bent in the shape of an X.

Go Bassani or BBK for a good chambered X.

Personally, I believe going catless is the best way to gain HP. The stock H-pipe is like having allergies and not being able to breath, lol literaly!
Anyways, if you have concerns about smog check, just go with shortys and store the stock H-pipe to reinstall b4 the smog check 2 yrs from then. That's what I did!

Any offroad pipe (catless) will be MUCH louder and more aggressive.

I don`t like the sound of x pipes with Flowmasters.  IMHO Flowmasters sound best with offroad H pipes or Mac Prochambers.

I run a Bassani offroad X pipe with Magnaflows and I`m verrry pleased.  Definitely LOUD and DEEP.  Raspier than when I was running the cats in the Bassani X.

Stock mid pipes have 4 cats and muzzle the sound BIGTIME.

To answer your question about the headers:

My dad has a 02 GT running a Bassani X pipe off road no cats. His mustang sounded (still sounds) amazing and has a very exotic tone to it. He just installed BBK shorty headers on it and it quieted down the exhaust but put in so much more power he says he can really feel the difference even in the lower RPMs.

Of course Daddy's little girl isn't allowed to drive his GT... so i cant tell you from experiance.

If you change to an o/r/ xpipe, which means you will no longer have cats on it, yes, it will be louder.  May get a couple of HP also.  The stock h pipe with cats is restrictive, so the sound will def change.
