Running Rich
« on: September 20, 2009, 07:48:38 AM »
My car is running extremely rich. Its only been doing this for about 4 or 5 days but its so strong I have to drive with the windows down to get fresh air. What could it be? Would a tune up fix my problem? If so what kind of spark plugs to I want to buy?

have you done anything to the car recently such as clean the air filter or anything else? Maybe your MAF needs cleaning. Are you getting a check engine light? Maybe it would be good to see if any codes are stored? Could be a sensor isn't working right and maybe you're running on open loop mode. (computer's default settings, not based on sensor input)

my check engine light is always on.
Code pulls for a oxygen censor behind the cats. I have no cats so thats why its on.

I will try cleaning the MAF and air filter. Thanks for the tips

yeah kinda hard to know if anything new went wrong if the light is always on. Do you have a tool for pulling codes? Some cars (like my gf's MR2) you can get the check engine light to flash codes. We have the toyota shop manual for it but haynes would probably tell ya too.

Tune ups done.

Took it to my mom's exboyfriends auto repair shop and he pointed out a gas leak at my gas tank.  ::)

Go figure. So the car is fine. I got the seal to fix the leak  ;D

Who would love to do the honor of fixing it for me? The tank is half full

i noticed in your profile it says you have a rear seat delete in your car? did you just take the backseat out? or do they make something to put where your seats used to be?
