Topic: Dealer said cold-air intake worse fuel mileage...

There are probably lot's of questions about cold-air intakes, but I did browse around and didn't see an answer to my question, so I hope someone can answer it for me.
The dealership told me a cold-air intake would not void my warranty but would worsen my fuel economy. Is this true, and if so, why?
If not, are there any other downsides to getting one?

your dealers full of it. a cold air will make you get better gas mileage thats a very proven fact.

I have no idea why your dealer would tell you a lie, but a cold air induction system certainly allows your engine to breathe better, therefore improving gas mileage and power.  Why do you think that just about every automobile today comes equipped with a cold air induction system?

Makes sense to me... doesn't sound like there are any downsides except some extra cost? Extra noise is certainly not a downside to me.
Are there any long term reliability issues?

Not sure what you mean by long term reliabilities, but as far as I know there is absolutely no down side to having a cold air induction system and many up sides.

the oil in some cold air intakes can screw up your maf sensor thats the only downside i know of

I've been running a K&N filter in my 03 Mach1 almost since day one, and it has 30K miles on it.  I clean the filter each time I change the oil in the motor, and of course oil it.  I have yet to see,hear or feel any difference in the performance of my 32 valver.  I did, however spray some special cleaner into my MAF and used a Q-Tip to clean it, and I only did that  because of a tip from RModel65.  It didn't change anything, but I guess if the MAF gets dirty, then just swab it and then you will be good to go.

yeah sometimes the maf gets dirty esp with the oiled filters but its easy to clean

There full of it. Not once have I seen a Properly functioning Cold Air Kit show a loss in Mileage, always gains I personally picked up just over a 1 mpg.

Alright, it sounds like there are no problems with installing a cold-air intake. While I was getting the car serviced I talked to a parts guy at the local dealership and he said that same thing; it should improve fuel economy. Now, how well do CAI work without reprogramming? Should I get a chip for it or is it not a big deal?

I'm not sure what you are talking about I guess.  You already have a cold air intake on your 07 GT.  However, you can step up to the Steeda cold air intake and add about 800 bucks to the price of your car, but why?  Do you race this car?

no, i'm talking about a cold air intake. For some of them, though, you can get a chip to reprogram the computer's fuel/air ratio.

Are you telling me that you think you don't have a cold air intake on your 07 GT?

 No, he is asking if he needs to reprogram the computer to install a cold air intake system.
 If you reprogram the fuel/air ratio, it will improve the power and the fuel economy even more but you don't need to do it. A CAI alone will still be an improvement compared to the original setup.
