Clutch cable help
« on: January 23, 2010, 05:29:24 PM »
Ok when i had my clutch replaced about a month ago i had a steeda adjustable kit installed adjustable clutch cable, firewall adjuster, and the stainless steel quadrant. It was on about a month until last sat when the cable snapped on me at walmart.I got a new cable shipped and i had the old one taken out the next day.I cant seem to figure out how to soften up the pedal. It feels like if i try to drive it the cable is going to snap again so i havent even tried driving it yet.It kinda feels like the cable is to short or something i dont know.It doesnt barely have any slack at the end where it goes into the clutch fork.Just wondering if its supposed to be like that or not.

I put the new quadrant into my nephews 02 Mustang, and it snapped after a few thousand miles.  He was in a city far away from me and had a garage replace the cable.  After thinking about it, I  firmily believe the directions on the installation are wrong, and that they suggest a stronger cable tension than it really needs.  If I were to do it again  I wouldn't tension the cable so much at the firewall.

I had the same issue strong pedal feel and my cable snapped at the theater.
I doubt the instructions are wrong. All the tension adjust does is takes out the slack in the cable but its the clutch spring that makes the pedal so hard. at least thats the way I understand it.
anyway, im opting to convert to a hydraulic clutch to hopefully solve the issue.
now im having trouble finding a kit for the foxbody.

You didn't change the clutch spring when you installed the new quadrant, so that should not change the clutch pedal pressure.  The only difference would be the cable tension.  Try loosening up the pressure on the firewall adjuster.  That's what that adjuster is for.
