8.8 rear end question
« on: April 19, 2010, 08:06:56 PM »
02 mustang GT, just rebuilt the rear end with a new set of 373 gears. Ever since I rebuilt. The rear end it has roared. What are some things that I can do to fix this problem?

Replacing gears in a rear is not for novices.

the gears in the car had already been changed over. I rebuilt the rear end due to a bearing failure. I am looking for real comments only, not smart a** comments like the last one.

There are a few special tools and measurements needed to set up a rear axle and if you don't use (or have) them, you wasted your time.

Try a Ford Service Manual.

Not knowing your experience in changing out rear gears, my advice was not meant to be controversial.  It was meant to give you advice about replacing gears in the rear end if you don't know what you are doing.  Again, if you don't have the experience, then don't try it.  Obviously you have some experience that you didn't share with us in your initial post, but your gears are roaring, and obviously not aligned properly.

go to "muscle mustangs and fast fords" you know, the magazine, go to their web page and do a search, i know for a fact there have been a few articles on how to do it and what you need, it actually helped me greatly and i have done them before but this refreshed my brain alot.  i have the actual mag but i know its on the site.  its really not that hard, back lash, teeth wear pattern preloads, what shims are needed, it tells you all of those.  main tools a torque wrench, feller gauges white lithium grease(to see the wear pattern) and a magnetic dail thing(hahaha i forgot what its called) then basic hand tools. took me 3 hours while drinking to do it right. good luck

It's not me and yes I do have all (most) of my (gray) hair. If you note, the axle opens from the back ala 6 cylinder style.
