2006 GT, cold air and tuning question
« on: February 25, 2009, 12:06:20 PM »
I've been reading about adding a cold air intake on my 06' GT as my first upgrade.  Thinking about K&N but, im still reading up on it...

One of the main questions I had from reading the forums was about the tuning. Trying not to bring up old topics, but will i receive any boost, mpg/hp wise if i don't specially tune for the new intake?

I want to make sure it's not a waste for now.. Thanks!

You shouldn't need to fool with the tuning.   The idea is to get more air through the EFI.  As this article will show you, the tubing used after the filter is designed to run quiet, not move maximum air.  If you have the money, get it.  There are more than one brand other than K&N, but K&N does have a great reputation, doesn't it?  I didn't put a cold air kit on my 03 Mach1, but I did add the K&N filter. and I swear I could feel more horsepower.  All the articles you read say that a cold air kit will give you more horsepower and improved gas mileage.  They just don't say how much.   ;D

I put in a JLT CAI and saw a significant difference but 80% was the tune.  Brenspeed gave me three tunes with the tuner I got with the CAI.  I don't think there is much reason for the CAI if you're not going to tune also.
