Topic: 1996 GT convert , fifth gear hard to get

Bought a 96 for the wife and it has some demons, one is that shifting into 5th it will grind if shifted normally, but can be coaxed into gear if shifted fast and hard! Is it the linkage or a bad fifth gear ? Thanks in advance
