Topic: 18" wheels

I have a 2002 GT Convertible that I just bought, it has 18" wheels on it, they rub on hard turns and when I go over bumps.  I like the wheels, I can live with the rubbing, I make wider turns, but is it going to hurt the car, other than just wearing out the tires quicker.  It really looks good.

its not great for them you can roll the fenders slightly with a baseball bat and massage the inner fenders with a hammer

There is a reason why Ford put 17" wheels on that car.  That's what fits the car.  The 18's are obviously an inch too big.  But, as Stephen said, get a baseball bat out and roll the fenders some, then whip on the inner fender with a hammer to make more room.  Otherwise, you are going to be out about $1000 for the correct size of wheels and tires.  You may say it's OK, and that you only have to make wider turns, but if you have to swerve quickly to avoid a crash, then your tires will prevent you from doing that.  Looks vs. safety......safety wins out every time.

17" is the limit. If you want to buy and buy tires then go ahead and retain the 18". but I suggest put the 17" back.

i donno if my 88 has bigger wheel wells or what but i have 18s on my car and they dont rub, well actually when i bought it it had 245 40 18s and it did hit the front fender once i donno how the PO did it.  i left the 245s on the back and went 225 40 18s on the front and have no problems. so maybe a lower profile tire will give you the room you need
