2009 - 2011 Four door Mustang & Mustang wagon

Update about the next generation Mustang
Ford’s iconic Mustang is poised to play a crucial role in Ford’s future by expanding beyond its traditional role as a single performance figurehead into a complete range of global models. And the company’s Australian arm looks like the source for all the necessary hardware.

In a secret product planning meeting last fall, key Ford executives discussed a bold strategy to take the legendary Mustang mainstream. Ideas include both sedan and wagon variants of America’s original muscle car, with those cars joining the traditional coupe when the sixth-generation Mustang arrives in U.S. showrooms in 2011, AutoWeek sources say.

Update December 19, 2006
Ford Motor Co. denied the report. No way, Ford said in a statement last Friday.
“Mustang is an icon and will continue in its current form: a unique, two-door, rear-wheel-drive, 2+2 performance car,” Ford said.
But Ford announced the new concept car the Interceptor will be presented during the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January. The concept car will be based on Mustang’s rear-wheel-drive architecture but won’t be called a Mustang.
“It is not a Mustang, and no production plans have been announced,” Ford said.
Meanwhile, AutoWeek said it stands by its sources saying that Ford is developing various models using the Mustang platform, due in 2011.
“Those sources suggest a four door Mustang would be a strong option, especially in the global marketplace,” AutoWeek said.

Update January 19, 2007
FOMOCO revealed the 4 door “Mustangs” that probably started this rumour. Their concept cars are using a stretch version of the Ford Mustang platform and more info can be seen below.

NO! The American public does not need a 4-door Mustang. OR any indication that the chassis/frame/suspension or anything came off the Mustang. Dodge goofed up on the 4-door Charger, so if FMC keeps their senses, they’ll keep the original pony a 2-door coupe/conv.

  2. Andy Moench Says:

Plese GOD don’t ever do this…. Four door mustangs and station wagon mustangs are justa really bad idea…. Lets keep the muscle car routs…

  3. David Says:

    not a bad lookin car.

  4. David Says:

its not any diferent than a truck to a extended cab truck

  5. louis Says:

this would probally be the worst decision by ford! this is like a bad sequal to a disney movie!

  6. 05 NITMARE Says:

NNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DON”T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT.

  7. sabas Says:

In 1964 FMC came up with the mustang and it has ever since been a 2 door coupe. Please!!!!! for the love of God dont take that away from the American people and the rest of the world.

  8. Dylan Says:

Why in the world would this car be designed. There is nothing attractive about it. Completely ruins everything mustang built up to this point!!

  9. Amanda Woods Says:

This idea of the Mustang was beyond terrible, someone must have been drunk while creating this design. Enough has changed in the world, don’t change the beauty of Mustangs as well!

  10. bill Says:

I think it would be cool to have one but mustangs should only have 2 doors.

  11. casey Says:

if they do go through with this, its going to ruin the mustang name and would lose a lot of ford mustang fans

  12. brittney Says:

LOL i think this is the funniest thing ive ever heard lol…hey all you mustang lovers, atleast you can fit the kids in the back now! guess youll just have to switch to the camaro!

  13. RalphE Says:

You people must be insane! Would you rather keep one nameplate, or an entire company. As it stands the Mustang is completely alone in its’ segment—-which is DEAD!!!!!– Plus it doesn’t have mainstream appeal, being available only as a coupe. All the while, Fords’ stock continues to fall with no contemporary successor to the “Taurus” available. Forget the success of the current Mustang, Ford (and GM for that matter) has lost touch with the heart of the market. It needs to engineer a car for the Camry/Accord buyer. The Mustang as the car you know it, is dead. That’s probably why they’re releasing so many “special editions” on the current platform. The name is worth saving, but 2-door ponycars aren’t practical to build, or sell to a worldwide audience.

  14. Carlos Says:

Who ever says No think about it i am sure that other people like me will agree that making a 4 door mustang would be amazing yet shocking to the world in a good way, However i am not feeling the wagon cuz its ugly it will ruin the Mustangs reputation World Wide.

  15. danny Says:

In my perspective this mustang wagon is a horrible decision. The legend of the two doors Mustangs has been around for a long period of time; I believe the legend should continue, like it has been untill now!!

  16. Rain Says:

Man.. I have to say that it does look like the dodge charger.. I dont like it at all.. I really dont think alot of people will buy it.. its gone too far away from the Mustang concept.. alot of guys would be mad to see that car.. its looks UGLY.. but I do like Chargers.. and its clearly not a Charger. Dont ruin a beautiful car.. Im a female and I feel that way.

  17. Hunter Says:

I agree, don’t kill the mustang. The “Buy American” ricers don’t need a reason to cry. Also, why would they use the platform of a car with a poor comfort rating for a family car?

  18. Bonnie Says:

OMG please don’t do that 4 door might be cute but a wagon (?!?!!?!?) would be the uglesy thing on the market. I was thinking about buying a 1965 Ford mustang for my 16th B-day or a newer one but if I see this on the market I’ll go to Mercury Mariner way. The wagon is a big turn off . Where I live everyone has or has had a 2 door mustang sometime in thier life. Really if you do this it is really just a down hill turn. Maybe you should look into the hybrid way not 4 door. To the guy that came up with it I say this to you ” First God bless you for you are plain crazy,Also don’t mess with a classic, and God made the Mustang like that so you mess it up you’ll go to h*ll,do you do drugs, and last you should be fired I have better ideas then you.” Now I feel better so for my last request for the love of God don’t change Ford. If you do you’ll break a 15 year olds heart.

  19. aaron curry Says:

are you FUCKING crazy??????? My house doesn’t even have 4 doors! Insulted,I will have to laser off my ‘Stang tatoos rather than spend the money on yet another already fine American icon. It aint broke……Don’t fix it!!!!!!!!!

  20. Alysha Says:

WoW.. Ford will really fuck up the Mustang name if they make a 4 door .. they will REALLY screw up with that ugly ass wagon concept. I work at Ford and I hope they dont mess up!!!

  21. geneb Says:

I am a Mustang fanatic… shelby’s rule all….. The mustang is the only car ford makes that doesnt suk. But if ford comes out with a 4-door mustand and/or a wagon.. i will have to start buying korean cars I guess

  22. ash Says:

Wowwww. Mustang’s are classic. The four door is a piece of crap. I think all the generations of Mustang’s would die with the production of that car. I wonder what Steve McQueen would have to say about all this.

  23. Kayti Says:

I agree with the majority of the people on this page!!! This would be a horrible design for the “next generation of muastang” I would rather Ford find a new name for this vehicle and discontinue the mustang all together than to name this “new design” the mustang. I have been around mustangs my entire life and it has basically been a slight change every year. This vehicle is NOT a mustang and never will be. It is a disgrace to the name. Mustangs should NEVER have more than two doors!!! I understang Ford wanting to have a vehicle like the other new “sports cars”. However, Mustang is not a name that this vehicle should carry.
