2007 Ford Mustang Boss 302
August 4th, 2006
The Magazine Motortrend is reporting in its latest issue that a Mustang Boss 302 will be produced for the last year of the actual Mustang before its redesign in 2008. The engine could be a 5.0L V8 or exactly 302 C.I. in size with a power of about 390 horsepower.
The Boss will receive the Shelby GT500’s suspension package and the interior will be stripped to reduce its weight.
It seems the Mustang Boss 302 will be as light as a V6 Mustang, more powerfull than a V8 GT and cheaper than a Shelby GT500.

I ALSO HOPE IT WILL COME GEARED 3.55 OR 3.73 WITH A POSITIVE TRACTION REAREND. FORD NEEDS TO GET WITH FLOWMASTER TO PUT THERE 2 CHAMBER MUFFLERS ON THE MUSTANG THEN YOU WILL HAVE THE PERFECT CAR

I saw one driving around in Houston today. Either someone has been modding their GT or there are some test mules driving around the US, this one was red - with the same stickers as shown in the picture - had an all black hood with a pretty pronounced bulge (shaker hood?) and louvered panels over the side past the c-pillar windows. It was all black between the tail lights as well. I did not get to see the front since I was in pretty heavy traffic.

Will the Boss 302 have the same Windsor engine as the 1969 and 1970 Boss’ or a modified 5.0L?
Thanks

This is a reply to Todd Barrick, a little after the fact. Ford’s 5.0 Cammer of the 2005 Grand American Cup championship used a 4.6 block with larger barrels that allowed a bore diameter of 3.70 inches. Hopefully, this will be the method used for any 5.0 in the future–the Grand Am Cup proved these barrels do not compromise the engine’s longevity. Saleen’s Parnelli Jones Edition Mustang uses a stroked 4.6 to create a 302. Why anyone would add stroke to an already undersquare engine is the $50,000 question (or whatever the MSRP will be of the PJ Edition Saleen)? Will the day ever come when we can get these hi-po hardware bits & pieces in a new Mustang without having to endure retro stripes and/or flat black hoods? How about just an identifying badge (”Boss” this or that, “Mach” whatever…) in the center of that area between the taillights instead of that gross faux ‘Sixties gas cap? That grotesque center gas cap wasn’t so dorky in the ‘Sixties since that’s where the true gas cap actually was in those early Mustangs–but it’s almost GM tacky today! The pushrod 289 (the engine that’s in my ‘66 Bronco), the pushrod 302 (a 289 with a quarter inch stroker), and the pushrod 5.0 had their day. But this is late 2006, and multi-valve ‘cammers offer advantages that can’t be ignored in this tough automotive environment. After all, the Koenigsegg CCR was briefly the fastest production car in the world a year or so ago (at a proven 241 MPH) using a 4700 cc version of the modular 4.6–a feat never achieved with a 289, 302, or 5.0…They never offered a fully-emissions-compliant 500 HP on the street, either!
